Peacebuilding & Reconciliation

In post-conflict and ethnically diverse areas, ALSDC fosters peace and social cohesion through dialogue, cultural exchange, and reconciliation initiatives. We build community trust and address root causes of tension, promoting peaceful coexistence among different ethnic and religious groups.

Youth, Women and Child Empowerment

Empowering youth, women, and children is central to ALSDC’s mission. We offer skills training, leadership development, entrepreneurship programs, and psychosocial support to build self- confidence, promote civic participation, and increase access to opportunities for these key groups.

Gender Equality, Equity & GBV Prevention

We advance gender equity through rights-based approaches to eliminate gender-based violence (GBV), challenge discrimination, and promote inclusive development. Our programs engage communities, institutions, and local leaders to shift harmful norms and ensure equal access to resources and justice.

Good Governance, Democracy & Rule of Law

ALSDC promotes participatory governance by building the institutional capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs), facilitating transparency, accountability, and public engagement in local governance. Through policy dialogues, social audits, and capacity development, we empower citizens to influence decision-making processes that affect their lives.

Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Action & Resilience

We equip communities to respond to natural disasters and adapt to climate change by promoting disaster preparedness, early warning systems, and climate-smart practices. ALSDC supports local environmental initiatives, sustainability education, and ecosystem protection.

Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

WALSDC works to ensure safe drinking water, improved sanitation facilities, and hygiene awareness in underserved communities. Our WASH programs address public health needs, especially in schools and marginalized areas, while promoting sustainable water management..

Health Awareness & Disease Prevention (HIV/AIDS & TB)

We deliver health education, stigma reduction campaigns, and support systems for individuals affected by HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. ALSDC partners with local health systems to improve access to care, testing, and treatment while promoting healthier behaviors.

Educational Empowerment & Development

Education is a pathway to empowerment. We support equitable access to quality education through school-based programs, adult literacy, vocational training, infrastructure support, arts- based learning (including drama), and life skills education to ensure children and youth access meaningful learning opportunities. ALSDC also champions inclusive education for children with disabilities and promotes lifelong learning.

Empowerment of Marginalized & Structurally Excluded Communities

ALSDC amplifies the voices of plantation communities, urban migrant women, and other marginalized groups. We focus on social inclusion, economic empowerment, and access to services, aiming to bridge systemic inequalities and enable sustainable development for all.

Agriculture & Sustainable Livelihoods

To uplift rural economies, ALSDC supports sustainable agriculture, organic farming, and food security initiatives. We empower smallholder farmers, especially women, with training, market access, and climate-resilient practices to ensure sustainable livelihoods.

Voter Education & Electoral Participation

We promote democratic participation through civic education, voter awareness campaigns, and election monitoring. By strengthening political literacy, especially among youth and first-time voters, ALSDC encourages informed and active citizenship.

Social Network Building & Community Engagement

We foster collaboration between communities, local authorities, and civil society actors to build inclusive and responsive social networks. These networks serve as platforms for information sharing, collective action, and advocacy to drive community-led development.

Shanka DharmapalaCountry Representative HELVETAS- Sri Lanka

Dear Team at Asia Lanka Social Development Cooperation, As Helvetas prepares to conclude its journey in Sri Lanka and bring Empowering Youth-Led Initiatives on Preventing Violent Extremism in Sri Lanka (2021–2025) project to its closure, we take this moment to extend our profound gratitude for your enduring partnership and the invaluable role you have played in our shared mission. EMPOWER project, funded by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF), was brought to success through the dedication of partners like ALSDC. ALSDC’s commitment to empowering youth in Kalutara district has been a cornerstone of our collective impact. Through your localized expertise, and deep community engagements, you have helped shape a future where youth are equipped with skills, confidence and agency to lead efforts in preventing violent extremism in their own communities. We warmly recall your successful completion of four subgrants under the EMPOWER Project, contributing meaningfully to building youth resilience to violent extremism and promoting their economic empowerment. What stood out most was your ability to strengthen strong and effective collaborations with diverse government stakeholders. Which is a unique and commendable strength that significantly enhanced the sustainability of our interventions. As the EMPOWER project concludes in December 2025, we carry forward immense gratitude and respect for your work. We wish you continued success in all your future endeavors and trust that your efforts will keep empowering communities for years to come. With sincere appreciation,
